# Managing items

In Sitecore, items are the building blocks of your digital experience.

In both Explorer and the Content Editor, you can [manage items](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/users/101/sitecore-experience-platform/general.html "General"), and use workflows to manage approval and publishing processes.

However, some features, such as working with [clones](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/users/101/sitecore-experience-platform/clones.html "Clones") and [buckets](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/users/101/sitecore-experience-platform/item-buckets.html "Item buckets"), are only available in the Content Editor. The Content Editor also lets you set [tags](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/users/101/sitecore-experience-platform/add-a-tag-to-an-item.html "Add a tag to an item") to categorize items, and archive - and restore - items. These features are particularly useful when you are managing a large amount of items.

To ensure the quality of the content published to your live digital properties, you can also create and configure [approval workflows](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/users/101/sitecore-experience-platform/workflows-and-the-workbox.html "Workflows and the Workbox") in the Content Editor, and move items through these workflows in the Content Editor and its associated app, the Workbox.
