# Exif data on media items

Media items in the Content Editor include fields that support the *Exchangeable image file format* (Exif) standard.

A media file can contain information that links this file to a specific geographical location. Sitecore stores this type of information in the **Location** section of a Sitecore media item.

The template for JPEG image items contains an **Exif** section with additional metadata fields specific to JPEG images.

Sitecore updates the fields automatically when you upload any media item that contains Exif metadata to Sitecore.
