Hosting in Sitecore

The Transaction Service is a WCF service and can be hosted separately, or as a sub-site to Sitecore. In cases where AJAX calls from the browser are expected, the service must satisfy CORS requirements. This can be accomplished by hosting within Sitecore, or by URL-rewriting to a separate IIS service.
