Edit a link field in Content

Insert a link to Sitecore content or an external URL.

In a general link field in Content, you can insert one of the following types of links:

  • An internal link - to a page in your Sitecore instance

When you create an internal link, Sitecore uses the item ID to identify the item. This means that the link does not break if you rename the item or restructure your site.

  • An external link - to a URL outside your site.

  • A media link - to a media file.

To insert a link:

  1. In the link field, select the type of link:

    • Internal - to link to a page on your site.

    • External - to link to a URL outside your site.

    • Media - to link to a media file in your media library or digital asset manager.

  2. Specify what you want to link to:

    • For an internal or media link, click Browse and select the page or media item that you want to link to and then click Add link.

    • For an external link, enter the URL in the URL field.

  3. Edit the remaining fields as required:

    Link text

Text that appears as a hyperlink.

    Link title

Text displayed in a tooltip when a visitor hovers the cursor over the link.

    URL query string

Parameters for the URL such as language and site.

To link to an anchor on an internal page, enter the anchor ID. (You must also insert the anchor.)

Select this option if you want the browser to open a new tab or window when a visitor clicks the link.
