Processing

Processing refers to the analysis of collected data, and is performed by Processing servers. Processing includes the following activities:

Interaction aggregation
Contact processing
Historical re-aggregation (‘rebuilding the reporting database‘)
Maintenance of the reporting database
Distributed processing (for example, allowing scheduled tasks to execute on the processing server)

Aggregation is specific to the grouping of interaction data. Contacts are processed, not aggregated.

Note

As of Sitecore 9.0, Processing servers are not responsible for indexing contact and interaction data. Indexing is performed by the xConnect Search Indexer.
