Marketing definitions

Marketing definitions represent marketing activities such as campaigns or goals, and are managed by marketers. The following is true of all definitions:

• Definitions are represented by items in Sitecore.
• Definitions are created by marketers.
• Definitions are deployed to the reference data store. If a definition has not been deployed, it cannot be used in an xDB context such as processing.
• Every definition type has its own definition manager in the Marketing Operations API.

Marketing definitions give meaning to a contact’s interaction with a brand. For instance, downloading a brochure might trigger a goal and clicking a link on Facebook might enroll the contact in a campaign.
