# Work with a sellable item

Abstract

How to create and manage products as sellable items using the Commerce Business Tools.

Sellable items represent products in Sitecore Experience Commerce (XC). A sellable item refers to a tangible or nontangible item or product that you manage in an online catalog. You manage sellable items in the catalog using the Commerce Merchandising tool.

If a sellable item is part of a product bundle (that is, it is a constituent sellable item), this relationship is indicated in the Sellable Item to Bundle section on the sellable item details page. This relationship is not displayed on the sellable item details page for variants. In the following example, the HD Glass Screen Protector is part of the Smartphone Bundle.

### Note

Typically, changes to sellable items become visible on the storefront within a few minutes of publishing. Otherwise, you can manually trigger the update on the storefront.

The Business Tools search feature allows you to search for sellable items from the Merchandising dashboard. The search looks across all existing catalogs and returns any sellable items that match or contain the search term you specified. A search is primarily based on a search term. However, you can also refine your search and reduce the number of results by specifying an additional keyword as a filter, in addition to your search term.

### About search terms and filters

When searching, you must provide a term to search on. You can use any of the following sellable item properties (indexed by default) as the term to search on:

• Name

• Display name

• Product ID

• Variant ID

• Variant display name

You can also search using a wildcard character (*) as your search term.

### Note

Indexed fields in your custom catalog ultimately determine the terms that you can search on.

You can use a filter in addition to a search term to further refine your search.

To search for sellable item:

1. On the Sitecore Launchpad, in the Commerce section, click Business Tools, and then click Merchandising. The Merchandising dashboard is displayed.

2. In the Search section, in the Term field, enter the sellable item term you want to search for.

3. Optionally, enter a filter to further refine your search.

### Note

Filters use the same sellable item properties as sellable item terms.

4. Press Enter to start the search.

You can create a sellable item in a catalog, category, or subcategory. A sellable item must always be associated with one of these containers.  If you disassociate a sellable item from a catalog, category, or subcategory, and it is not associated with any other, it still exists and can be found by using Search on the Merchandising dashboard.

To create a sellable item:

1. On the Sitecore Launchpad, in the Commerce section, click Business Tools and then click Merchandising.

2. On the Merchandising dashboard, in the Catalogs section, click the name of the catalog where you want to add the sellable item. To add a sellable item to a category or subcategory, in the Categories section click the relevant category name.

3. In the Sellable Items section, click the drop-down menu and click Add Sellable Item.

4. In the Add Sellable Item dialog box, enter the following mandatory information: a product ID, a name, and a display name.

### Note

5. To save, click the check mark.

The list of sellable items on a catalog or category details page is shown in the order that the sellable items were created.

You use variants to manage different variations of a parent sellable item. Each variant is an individual sellable item or product.

To add a sellable item variant:

1. In the Merchandising tool, navigate to the details page of the relevant sellable item.

### Note

You cannot make changes to entity versions that are published. If required, add a version of the sellable item so that you can make the required changes.

2. In the Variants section, click the drop-down menu, and then click Add Sellable Item variant +.

3. In the Add Sellable Item Variant dialog box, enter a value for each of the following properties: Variant ID, Name, and Display name.

4. To save, click the check mark.

### Important

Performance of the Content Editor might be impacted if you associate a high number of variants with each sellable item. This is because all sellable item variants are loaded even if you do not expand the sellable item when browsing the catalog in the Content Editor. To avoid this issue, minimize the number of variants associated with each sellable item.

You can add an image to catalog entities such as sellable items, product variants, or product bundles (static or dynamic). Product images are stored in Sitecore Media Library. Before you can add an image to a catalog entity, you must make sure that the image exists in the Media Library.

### Note

You cannot make changes to entity versions that are published. If required, add a version so that you can make the required changes.

To add an image to a sellable item, a variant or a bundle:

1. In the Merchandising tool, navigate to the details page of the relevant sellable item, variant, or bundle.

2. In the Images section, click Add an image +.

3. In the Add Image dialog box, in the Search Term field, start typing the name of the image until the search result displays the image you are looking for.

4. Select the required image, and then click the check mark to add it to the catalog entity.

You add item definitions to a sellable item when you want that sellable item to inherit the custom child views of a Composer template.

To add item definitions to a sellable item:

1. In the Merchandising tool, navigate to the catalog, and then to the details page of the relevant sellable item.

2. In the Details section header, click the Manages Item Definitions icon.

3. In the Manage Item Definitions dialog box, under the Item Definition header, click the Product drop-down list to display all item definitions available in the catalog, and then select the required item definition checkbox.

### Note

You can only assign one item definition per sellable item.

The Sitecore XC Business Tools let you associate several different types of pricing with a sellable item, including a list price, multicurrency pricing, and tiered pricing.

### Assign a list price to a sellable item

To assign a list price to a sellable item:

1. In the Sellable Items section of a catalog, category, or subcategory details page, click the name of the relevant sellable item.

2. On the sellable item details page, in the  List Pricing section, click Add a list price +.

3. In the Add List Price dialog box, enter list prices for each currency your store supports.

### Note

The storefront displays the corresponding list price based on the currency that is configured in the storefront control panel settings, located at /sitecore/Commerce/Commerce Control Panel/Storefront Settings/Storefronts/[storefront name]/Currencies Display Adjustments.

### Assign a card price to a sellable item

You can assign a price card to a sellable item. A price card lets you assign price dynamically to a sellable item, based on a predetermined price change schedule.

To assign a card price to a sellable item:

1. In the Sellable Items section of catalog, category, or subcategory details page, click the name of the relevant sellable item.

2. In the Pricing section of the sellable items detail page, on the section header, click Edit pricing and, in the Edit Pricing dialog box, in the drop-down list, click the name of the price card to associate with the sellable item.

You can permanently delete a sellable item from a catalog.

To delete a sellable item:

1. On the Sitecore Launchpad, in the Commerce section, click Business Tools and then click Merchandising.

2. On the Merchandising dashboard, click the name of the relevant catalog, category, or subcategory and, in the Sellable Items section, click to highlight the line of the sellable item you want to delete.

3. In the sellable item drop-down list, click Delete and, in the Delete dialog box, click Delete

### Note

By default, if you delete a sellable item that is part of product bundle, that bundle can no longer be purchased.

### Note

If you delete a sellable item that is associated with multiple catalogs, categories, or bundles, the Delete dialog box gives you the option to Disassociate sellable item. Select this option to undo associations to parent containers without deleting the item itself.  You can then recreate new associations as required.

4. To save you changes, in the Delete dialog box, .click the check mark

If a sellable item is already associated to an inventory set, you can change the inventory information directly on the sellable item details page.

### Note

You do not need to create a new version of a sellable item in order to edit its associated inventory set information. You can edit the inventory details of any version of a sellable item, whether it is published or not.

To update an inventory set data:

1. In the Sellable Items section of a catalog, category, or subcategory details page, click the name of the relevant sellable item.

2. On the sellable item details page, in the Inventory Sets section, click Edit the sellable item inventory set.

3. In the Edit Sellable Item Inventory dialog box, make the necessary changes by editing the inventory data associated with a sellable item.

### Note

For a list of editable fields, see this topic.

You can associate a sellable item to a category from a sellable item detail page.

If you need to disassociate a sellable item from a category, you must go to the category detailed page.

To associate a sellable item:

1. In the Sellable Items section of a catalog, category, or subcategory details page, click the name of the relevant sellable item.

2. On the sellable item details page, in the Summary section, click the drop-down menu, and then click Associate category.

3. In the Associate category dialog box, enter the category ID or the category name, and then click the check mark to save your changes.

### Note

Sellable item relationships are not versioned. The exception to this is the bundle to constituent item relationships, which are versioned and can be different with each version.
