Create a transformation

Transformations let you create renditions dynamically, in different dimensions, without regenerating the public link.

When you apply a transformation:

  • The system tries to apply a same-type conversion on a file type.

  • If the system cannot do such a conversion, it returns the original file.

Note

Transformations can only be applied to images (for example, .jpeg, .png, .gif files, and so on) and do not support videos, PDFs, or other non-image asset types.

To create a transformation:

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage .

  2. On the Manage page, click Transformations.

  3. On the Transformations page, click Transformation.

  4. In the Transformation dialog, fill in the following fields.

    Field

    Description

    Mandatory

    Name

    Name of the transformation.

    Yes

    Crop

    Type of crop.

    No

    Width (px)

The transformation is scaled to this width depending on the selected Crop option.

Only for Smart crop and Crop to center.

    Height (px)

The transformation is scaled to this height depending on the selected Crop option.

Only for Smart crop and Crop to center.

    Quality

Quality of the transformation. This parameter is only applied when a format supports a lossy output. For inherently lossless formats, such as .png or .tiff, the quality parameter has no impact on appearance; and might result in larger files if compression isn’t preserved. For flexible formats such as .webP, you must configure quality to avoid defaulting to a high-fidelity (and often bulkier) output.

    No

  5. To create another transformation, select the Create another check box.

  6. Click Save. If you selected the Create another check box, the Transformation dialog displays where you can create another transformation. If you are not creating another item, the Transformations page opens.

    Note

When you create another item, some of the fields are prefilled with values you already defined.

After you create the transformation, you can apply it to public links.

Note

To edit a transformation, on the Transformations page, next to the transformation you want to edit, click Edit .
