Adding properties to Commerce items

Version: 9.0

Sitecore XC Business Tools let you customize the information displayed for any Commerce item. You can add new properties to any of the following Commerce items:

  • Catalogs

  • Categories

  • Sellable items

  • Inventory sets

  • Price books

  • Price cards

  • Promotion books

  • Promotions

  • Customers

When you add new properties to a Commerce item, the system creates a new child view for the item. If you want to apply the new set of properties to more than one Commerce item, you convert the new child view to a template on the Composer dashboard to make it available to other Commerce items.

You can apply a set of custom properties to one specific Commerce item, a subset of Commerce sellable items, or to all Commerce items of a certain type (for example, all catalogs).

Note

When you add custom properties to certain Commerce items (catalogs, categories, and sellable items), you increase the number of fields that the system indexes for Search. If you have deployed your Sitecore XC solution to the Azure App service, you cannot add more than 300 custom fields, due to limitations with Azure Search.

When you add a new property to a Commerce item, you specify a data type for the property (that is, the kind of value expected for the property, such as a string or a decimal). Depending on the data type you select, you can further define constraints for values permitted for the property.

Note

You must be assigned to the Commerce Administrator role to access this functionality.
