Add a new product attribute

During your initial onboarding, the Sitecore Discover integration team sets your account up with default attributes as well as custom attributes you specify. If you want to add a new attribute after the initial setup, you must first include the new product attribute in your product data feed. Then, you must add the attribute in the Customer Engagement Console (CEC) using the Domain Settings section of the Administration page.

Note

You can only use this process to add a new attribute. To make changes to an existing attribute, contact Sitecore support.

To add a product attribute in the CEC:

  1. In the CEC, on the menu bar, click Administration, then click Domain Setting.

  2. On the Attributes tab, click Add Attribute. This opens a form with a vertical tab bar on the left. Available tabs are Settings and Use for Features.

  3. On the Settings tab, in the Entity drop-down menu, click Product.

  4. In the Display Name input field, enter a display name for the attribute. Then, in the Attribute Name input field, enter that attribute's key or property name for use in data feeds.

    Tip

The attribute name must be alphanumeric and lowercase with no spaces. Separate words with an underscore (_).

  5. In the Attribute Type drop-down menu, click Standard.

  6. In the Placement drop-down menu, click Product, then click Standard.

  7. In the Data Type drop-down menu, click the data type of the attribute.

    Note

Later options are affected by the data type chosen here. For example, an attribute of type boolean cannot be used for URL generation. Similarly, an attribute of type object cannot be used for filters, sorting options, URL generation, and so on. Unavailable options are greyed out.

  8. Optionally, enter values in the following input fields: Data Validation, Default Value, Description, Alias, Alias in Request URL, and Icon.

  9. Optionally, if the attribute is an aggregate attribute:

    • In the Mark as field, select the Aggregation check box.

    • In the Type drop-down menu, click the type of aggregation you want to create.

    • In the Attributes drop-down menu, click the attributes you want to combine to create the new aggregate attribute.

  10. On the Use For Features tab, select the CEC features where you want to use the attribute. This is where you enable an attribute to be used as a sorting option, a filter, a swatch, and so on.

  11. To add the new attribute, click Save. Then, click Publish.

    Important

Clicking Save brings you back to the Attributes tab. It does not implement your changes. Changes take effect only after you click Publish.
