Add or edit widget variations
The following procedures describe how to add widget variations and rules in Sitecore Search. When you add a widget variation to a widget, it has no rules.
To save a widget variation rule, you need to populate at least one of the following configurations:

Site or visitor context.

Blacklist, boost, pin, or bury strategy.
Add a widget variation and rule to a widget
To add a widget variation and rule to a widget:

On the menu bar, click Widgets.

On the Widgets tab, click the name of the widget you want to open.

On the Widget Variations tab, click Add variation.

Enter a name for this new variation then click Save.

On the Rules tab, click Add Rule then if your implementation has only one entity, go to step 7.

In the top banner, on the right, in the Output entity dropdown menu, select an entity.
NoteSelection change in the Output entity dropdown menu:

displays the number of entity items matching the rule.

populates the rule with selected entity items.
The items in the slots of a new rule do not necessarily reflect those at runtime.

Schedule a widget variation
To schedule a widget variation:

On the menu bar, click Widgets.
-
On the Widgets tab, click the name of the widget you want to open.

On the Widget Variations tab, click the name of the widget variation you want to open.

In the bar above the list of rules, to open variation scheduler, click Schedule.
-
Select start and end dates then from timezone dropdown, select the applicable value.

Choose from one of the following options:
To restart, click Clear schedule and go back to step 5.
To ignore any changes and return to the variation page, click Cancel.
To save changes and assign schedule to variation, click Save then on the variation page, click Publish.
Add a widget variation rule
To add a widget variation rule:

On the menu bar, click Widgets.

On the Widgets tab, click the name of the widget you want to open.

On the Widget Variations tab, click the name of the widget variation you want to open.
NoteIf you want to make this variation the default widget variation, turn on the Make this as a default variation switch.

On the Rules tab, click Add Rule then if your implementation has only one entity, go to step 6.

To create of edit a global widget variation rule:

On the menu bar, click Global Resources.

Click Global Widget.
-
On the Global Widget Variations tab, click Add Variation and enter an easy to identify name for the new variation.

Turn on the Make this as a default variation switch and click Save.

On the Rules tab, click the rule you want to edit or click Add Rule.

In the top banner, on the right, in the Output entity dropdown menu, to edit the entity.
