Create a data template
You create new data templates when the:

New items you are creating require fields not defined in existing data templates.

New items you are creating require unique default values and default settings.
To create a data template:

In the Template Manager or the Content Editor (/Sitecore/Templates), right-click the Templates folder, click Insert, Template Folder and, in the Message dialog box, enter a name for the folder and then click OK.

With the folder you just created selected in the content tree, on the Folder tab, click New Template.

On the Select name page, enter the name of the new data template and, from the Base template list, select a base data template, or select the default /System/Templates/Standard template base data template.

Click Next.

On the Location page, select the project-specific folder to contain the new data template, and click Next.

Click Finish.
