Work with a sellable item
Sellable items represent products in Sitecore Experience Commerce (XC). A sellable item refers to a tangible or nontangible item or product that you manage in an online catalog. You manage sellable items in the catalog using the Commerce Merchandising tool.
If a sellable item is part of a product bundle (that is, it is a constituent sellable item), this relationship is indicated in the Sellable Item to Bundle section on the sellable item details page. This relationship is not displayed on the sellable item details page for variants. In the following example, the HD Glass Screen Protector is part of the Smartphone Bundle.
Typically, changes to sellable items become visible on the storefront within a few minutes of publishing. Otherwise, you can manually trigger the update on the storefront.
Search for a sellable item
The Business Tools search feature allows you to search for sellable items from the Merchandising dashboard. The search looks across all existing catalogs and returns any sellable items that match or contain the search term you specified. A search is primarily based on a search term. However, you can also refine your search and reduce the number of results by specifying an additional keyword as a filter, in addition to your search term.
About search terms and filters
When searching, you must provide a term to search on. You can use any of the following sellable item properties (indexed by default) as the term to search on:
-
Name
-
Display name
-
Product ID
-
Variant ID
-
Variant display name
You can also search using a wildcard character (*) as your search term.
Indexed fields in your custom catalog ultimately determine the terms that you can search on.
You can use a filter in addition to a search term to further refine your search.
To search for sellable item:
-
On the Sitecore Launchpad, in the Commerce section, click Business Tools, and then click Merchandising. The Merchandising dashboard is displayed.
-
In the Search section, in the Term field, enter the sellable item term you want to search for.
-
Optionally, enter a filter to further refine your search.
NoteFilters use the same sellable item properties as sellable item terms.
-
Press Enter to start the search.
Create a sellable item
You can create a sellable item in a catalog, category, or subcategory. A sellable item must always be associated with one of these containers. If you disassociate a sellable item from a catalog, category, or subcategory, and it is not associated with any other, it still exists and can be found by using Search on the Merchandising dashboard.
To create a sellable item:
-
On the Sitecore Launchpad, in the Commerce section, click Business Tools and then click Merchandising.
-
On the Merchandising dashboard, in the Catalogs section, click the name of the catalog where you want to add the sellable item. To add a sellable item to a category or subcategory, in the Categories section click the relevant category name.
-
In the Sellable Items section, click the drop-down menu and click Add Sellable Item.
-
In the Add Sellable Item dialog box, enter the following mandatory information: a product ID, a name, and a display name.
NoteOptionally, you can specify additional details about the sellable.
-
To save, click the check mark.
The list of sellable items on a catalog or category details page is shown in the order that the sellable items were created.
Add a variant to a sellable item
You use variants to manage different variations of a parent sellable item. Each variant is an individual sellable item or product.
To add a sellable item variant:
-
In the Merchandising tool, navigate to the details page of the relevant sellable item.
NoteYou cannot make changes to entity versions that are published. If required, add a version of the sellable item so that you can make the required changes.
-
In the Variants section, click the drop-down menu, and then click Add Sellable Item variant +.
-
In the
Add Sellable Item Variant
dialog box, enter a value for each of the following properties: Variant ID, Name, and Display name. -
To save, click the check mark.
Performance of the Content Editor might be impacted if you associate a high number of variants with each sellable item. This is because all sellable item variants are loaded even if you do not expand the sellable item when browsing the catalog in the Content Editor. To avoid this issue, minimize the number of variants associated with each sellable item.
Add an image to a catalog entity
You can add images to catalog entities such as sellable items, product variants, or product bundles (static or dynamic). Product images are stored in Sitecore Media Library. Before you can add an image to a catalog entity, you must make sure that the image exists in the Media Library.
