Migrating customer data from XP (xDB) to CDP

Version: 10.3

In Sitecore Connect, you can use the xDB to CDP migration tool to migrate customer data from the xDB database in your Sitecore Experience Platform (XP) instance to a cloud-based Sitecore CDP instance.

To get an overview of the terms used in this section, see XP and CDP terminology.

Data you can migrate

  • Contacts - you can only migrate known contacts. Those are the contacts who have provided information that can help identify them.

  • Facets - you can migrate built-in facets and custom facets. Facets represent information about the contacts, such as name, address, and phone number.

  • Lists - you can migrate contact lists and segmented lists. List names are migrated as custom facets.

Data you cannot migrate

  • Anonymous contacts - visitors who access a website without providing any data that can help identify them.

  • Interactions - data about user actions.

  • Reporting and analytics - these data items can't be mapped, and therefore can't be migrated.

Filters

You can use filters to narrow down the scope of the data to be migrated:

  • Contact filters - lets you choose specific contacts to migrate.

  • Facet filters - lets you filter out facets that you don't want to migrate. This is helpful, for example, if you want to avoid moving files that take up a lot of space, such as attachments and images.

Note

As an alternative to the filters, you can use the standalone [XCM] REC004 | Migrate Contacts By ID recipe to migrate only specific contacts.
