Create synonyms and replacements

You can build word relationships in the Customer Engagement Console (CEC) by creating one-way or two-way synonyms or adding replacement words. These types of word relationships enable you to expand the product search results for a given keyword or keyphrase by associating it with other words having nearly the same meaning or category.

Create a one-way or two-way synonym

To create a one-way or two-way synonym for a keyword:

  1. In the CEC, on the menu bar, click Global Resources and then click Synonyms.

  2. On the Synonyms tab, click Add Keyword.

  3. In the Type options, select the One-way & two-way synonyms option.

  4. In the Keyword field, enter the keyword you want to create a synonym for.

  5. In the One-way synonyms field, enter the corresponding synonyms.

    Note

A keyword added in the Keyword field returns search results for that keyword and all synonyms added in the One-way synonyms field. The synonyms do not return search results for the keyword.

  6. If you want to add words that are to be treated exactly the same as your keyword, in the Two-way synonyms field, enter the equivalent words.

    Note

The words in the Keyword and Two-way synonyms fields have bidirectional word equivalence and return the same search results.

  7. Click Save and then click Publish to apply your changes.

Create a replacement word

To create a replacement word for a keyword:

  1. In the CEC, on the menu bar, click Global Resources and then click Synonyms.

  2. On the Synonyms tab, click Add Keyword.

  3. In the Type options, select the Replacement option.

  4. In the Keyword field, enter the keyword you want to create a replacement word for.

  5. In the Replacement field, enter the replacement word.

  6. Click Save and then click Publish to apply your changes.
