Default Marketplace apps
Default apps are a type of Marketplace application developed and maintained exclusively by Sitecore. They provide a ready-to-use, integrated solution for common product and feature gaps in Sitecore functionality.
Default apps are available to all Sitecore organizations and are listed in the public Marketplace.
Sitecore may automatically install default apps in your organization. Organization Admins and Organization Owners can manage installed default apps in My apps.
Default apps do not appear in App studio because they are created by Sitecore, not by your organization.
Required Cloud Portal roles and app actions
An Organization Admin or Organization Owner can take the following actions with a default app:
- Install the app from the public Marketplace.
- Update the app in your organization.
- Uninstall the app from your organization.
After an app is installed in an organization, team members with app access can find and start using it in the app's extension points.
Identifying default apps
In My apps, installed default apps are marked as Default app. If Sitecore installed the app for your organization, the Sitecore label appears in the Installed by column. If you or another organization admin or owner installed the default app, the You label appears in Installed by.
Commitments to service quality and reliability
Like public apps, default apps are intended for production use and are covered by formal commitments to service quality, reliability, data security, and compliance standards as public apps. Default apps receive ongoing maintenance, security updates, and support.
Automatically installed default apps
If Sitecore automatically installs a default app in your organization, Organization Admins and Organization Owners get notified via email.
Configuration changes to installed apps
If Sitecore changes certain configuration for a default app, the app status on the My apps page changes to Update required, and an organization admin or owner must update the app to receive the latest changes.
The following configuration changes require manually updating the app:
- API access - every change Sitecore makes to API access.
- App permissions - every change Sitecore makes to app permissions.
- Extension points - the following changes Sitecore makes:
- Enables or disables the standalone extension point.
- Enables any extension point in the SitecoreAI group when all were previously disabled.
- Disables the last remaining enabled extension point in the SitecoreAI group.
Uninstalling a default app
You can uninstall a default app at any time if the app does not meet your organization's needs.
Uninstalling a default app removes the app's specific functionality, but it does not affect any other functionality in Sitecore.
