Copy a decision model variant

Sitecore Personalize lets you copy a decision model variant in several ways, helping you create new decision model variants based on existing ones without starting from scratch.

Copy a base variant

When creating a new decision model variant, you have the option to use an existing variant as its base. Doing so allows you to retain the original variant while having a duplicate that you can edit.

To copy a base variant:

  1. On the Decision Model page, in the Draft column, click Add Variant.

The Decision Model Profile page displays the different decision model variants and their states.
  2. In the Choose a Base Variant dialog, select the radio button next to the variant you want to use as the base.

  3. Click Get Started.

  4. In the Title of new variant field, enter a name for the decision model variant.

  5. Click Create. The new decision model variant will appear in the Draft column, containing the content of the base variant.

Clone an archived variant

You can clone any archived decision model variant. Cloning lets you copy and reuse the same logic and structure of a variant that is no longer editable.

To clone an archived variant:

  1. On the Decision Model page, in the Archive column, find the variant you want to copy and click Clone.

  2. In the Title of new variant field, enter a name for the decision model variant.

  3. Click Create. The cloned decision model variant will appear in the Draft column.

Export a variant as a PNG file

You can export a decision model variant as a .png file to create a snapshot of it. Unlike an XML export, a PNG export provides only a static image of the layout and design of the variant. You can use it as a visual reference when creating a new variant.

To export a variant as a PNG file:

  1. On the Decision Model page, click the decision model variant you want to export as a PNG file.

  2. In the decision canvas, click Export as PNG .

  3. Click Download. The .png file of the variant will download to your default location.

Export a variant as an XML file

You can export a decision model variant as an .xml file to create a backup, share it with others, or reuse the exported content to a different environment.

To export a variant as an XML file:

  1. On the Decision Model page, click the decision model variant you want to export as an XML file.

  2. Remove any data systems added to the variant from the decision canvas to avoid errors when importing the XML.

  3. Click Export as XML . The .xml file of the variant will download to your default location.

  4. When the export is complete, you must manually re-add any removed data systems to continue working with the variant.

Import an XML file into a variant

You can reuse the structure and logic of an existing decision model variant by importing it into a new variant.

To import an XML file into a variant:

  1. On the Decision Model page, click the decision model variant where you want to import an XML file.

  2. On the decision canvas, click Import XML .

  3. Browse the location of the .xml file and click Open. The content will load onto the decision canvas. You can use it as it is, or you can modify it as needed.
