Edit an attribute

Sometimes you might have to make changes to an attribute to make it available for use with a specific feature. You can make these changes on the Domain Settings tab of the Administration page of Sitecore Search.

There are two different types of attributes that you can edit: top-level attributes that are not part of composite attributes, and inner attributes that are part of composite attributes. The process to edit these two types of attributes is slightly different.

Edit a top-level attribute

Most attributes are top-level attributes. This just means that they are not inside of a composite attribute such as rfk_stats or rfk_source. Examples of top-level attributes in the content entity include Content Type, Description, and Review rating.

To edit a top-level attribute:

  1. On the menu bar, click Administration > Domain Settings > Attributes.

  2. To filter the list of attributes by entity, in the Entity drop-down menu, select the type of entity you want to show and click Apply.

  3. To search for the attribute you want to edit, in the search bar, enter the attribute name. Then click the attribute in the tabular list. This opens the attribute editing dialog.

    Tip

Note the value of the attribute's Attribute Name. This might be different than the display name and is necessary for feature configuration.

  4. Scroll through the options and make any necessary changes.

  5. On the Use For Features tab, select the Personalization check box.

  6. Click Save, then click Publish. In the dialog that opens, to confirm your changes, click Publish again.

Important

After completing this step, you must reindex your content for the new sorting option to appear on your site.

Edit an inner attribute

Composite attributes are attributes that act as containers for a set of related inner attributes. Occasionally, you might want to edit an inner attribute. You might do this if you want to enable an inner attribute from rfk_stats as a sorting option.

To edit an inner attribute from a composite attribute:

  1. On the menu bar, click Administration > Domain Settings > Attributes.

  2. To filter the list of attributes by entity, in the Entity drop-down menu, select the check box for the type of entity you want to show and click Apply.

  3. To search for the composite attribute with the inner attribute you want to edit, on the Attributes tab, in the search box, enter the composite attribute name. Then click it in the tabular list. This opens the attribute configuration page.

  4. On the left vertical menu bar, click Inner Attributes. This opens a list of inner attributes.

  5. In the list of inner attributes, click the attribute you want to edit. This opens the attribute editing dialog.

    Tip

Note the value of the inner attribute's Attribute Name. This might be different than the display name and is necessary for feature configuration.

  6. If you need to enable the attribute for use for a feature, on the Use For Features tab, select the feature you want to use the attribute for.

  7. Click Apply, then click Save.

  8. Click Publish. In the dialog box that opens, to confirm your changes, click Publish again.

Important

After completing this step, you must reindex your content for the new sorting option to appear on your site.
