Publishing pages in the Horizon editor

Version:

If a page is in a workflow, the Publish button appears in the Workflow panel when the page is in the final state of the workflow.

If a page in not in a workflow, The Publish page button appears with the item details in the right-hand pane.

When you click the Publish or Publish page button, the page in the current language version and all related items are published, but any subitems are not published.

Related items can be:

  • Content used on the page, such as media files or data sources

  • Renderings, layouts, and templates used on the page

  • Clones or aliases of the page

Subitems are items that are nested under the current page in the content tree.

The Horizon editor uses Smart publish, which means the selected item is only published if it has changed since the last publication. When you run Smart publish, Sitecore compares the selected item in the Master database with the equivalent item in the target database and, if the item has changed, it is published. When you are publishing single items, Smart publish is a quick way to make sure that you publish all changes to a specific item and its related items.
