SEO widgets and page ranking

Sitecore Discover SEO widgets are content personalization widgets, specifically designed to increase catalog visibility, access, traction, and conversion. By adding an SEO widget on every product listing and details page, you are customizing each page for its content. In conjunction with visitor context rules, you can also provide content personalized for your visitors.

This topic describes how Discover and SEO widgets in particular help you to achieve high page rankings in search engine results by taking multiple steps simultaneously.

Incorporate top-ranking keywords

You use commonly accepted terms in your catalog to make the content resonate with your audience. Similarly, for SEO, you want to incorporate top keywords to increase visibility to search engines and traction of pages.

  • Make sure you include top ranking keywords in the values for meta_description and meta_keywords attributes of products and categories.

  • In the SEO widget, place these values in meta tags of your pages.

Create hundreds of page URLs

When you combine categories, subcategories, products with attribute filters in Discover, you can create hundreds of page URLs. Each permutation can be a unique product listing page displaying specific content.

To meet your requirements, during the setup process, Sitecore integration specialists configure URLs and product listing pages in the CEC.

You can modify settings in the following ways:

Ensure consistency

When search engines crawl a page that is consistent in its URL, title, meta data, and content, they know that the page is user-centric. In Discover, for product listing pages or your catalog, you can achieve this by using a search results widget and an SEO widget. The two widgets serve different purposes to ensure consistency.

  • Based on the URL, the search widget fetches and displays products.

  • Based on the URL and content, the SEO widget populates the page's title and meta data.

Publish and host your catalog pages in a CDN

In Discover, your catalog is a dynamic system capable of responding to merchandising opportunities. Your product listing pages can change when:

  • You change product and category data.

  • You modify settings of the pages including URLs.

  • You add or update attributes and keywords.

In all of these scenarios, your product listing pages are republished and indexed. Redirects are automatically added to the Discover CDN where necessary and do not require additional work.
