Select a data template
A data template defines and organizes content using fields and field types in the same way that a class defines the properties of an object. It is the field types that determine the user interface used to enter the data. To make it easier for a content author, you can group fields into sections. A data template can be used to model anything from a page to a set of configuration options.
You create and edit data templates in the Content Editor, where the root item of the content tree is /Sitecore.
To see all elements that make up the Templates item, you must view hidden items. To view hidden items, in the Content Editor, on the View tab, select the Hidden Items check box. To show hidden items, you must be an Administrator or have a Sitecore Client Developing or Sitecore Client Maintaining role.
To open the template builder in Content Editor:
-
On the Tools tab on the Dashboard, in the Content Editing section, click Content Editor.
-
Go to /sitecore/Templates and create or select a template definition item.
The Builder, Inheritance, and Content tabs open.
