Create a site collection
All sites must be placed within a site collection. Site collections are a way to group multiple sites either need to share resources or are authored by a single group. With this kind of multiple site collections architecture, you can provide each site collection a dedicated share of the Sitecore instance, including data templates, configuration, user management, and non-functional properties.
Each site collection can include multiple related sites, for example, to support multiple brands that need to share resources or are authored by a common team, or multiple locations for a single brand.
You either create collections using the Create Collection process described here, or when creating a new site.
Sites can't be moved between collections.
To prevent inheritance issues in Sitecore AI, all sites within a collection must use the same site template.
To create and manage sites and site collections, you must have the Admin or the Sitecore Client Site Managing role. Contact your system administrator to request the access rights as needed.
To create a collection:
-
In Channels, in the upper-right corner, click Create collection.
-
Enter the collection name.
-
The system name of the collection is created automatically based on the name entered for the collection, but you can edit it if needed.
-
You can add a Description of the collection.
-
Click Create.
Now you can select the collection when you create a site, or you can create the site directly from within the collection.
