Content Editor
The Content Editor is the cloud-based version of the same app in Sitecore Experience Platform (XP), which is Sitecore's on-prem CMS system. Most of the functionality in the Content Editor app is also available in the newer and more intuitive apps:
- Sites Channels
- Page builder
We encourage content authors and marketers to start using Channels and Page builder and only use the Content Editor for tasks currently not available in the newer apps.
Tasks you can only do in the Content Editor
Here's a list of the tasks you can only do in the Content Editor:
- Duplicate pages without subpages.
- Clone or unclone an item to inherit the field values of the original item.
- Redirect search traffic, for example, if pages are moved to new locations.
- Help search engines prioritize pages from your website.
- Use placeholder settings to control which components that can be used with particular placeholders, which are the main sections of a page.
- Use item buckets to hide a large number of items while keeping them searchable.
- Manage your media files in the legacy Media library.
The following tasks might require help from a developer:
- Create headless websites.
- Group your headless websites in site collections to share content, templates, layout, and settings between the sites.
- Create data templates to determine the structure of your pages, for example, the fields on your product pages, or elements such as footers.
- Define standard values to prepopulate the fields of your data templates, for example, Enter the product description here.
- Configure the sharing of styles, layout elements, components, and data sources between the sites within a site collection.
