Unpublish a page

Content authors and marketing managers need quick control over page visibility and need to remove campaigns or landing pages rapidly. With the Unpublish feature, you can quickly take a page offline across all versions for a specific language. Unpublish quickly takes a page offline without deleting content, letting you republish any version later.

Note

Unpublishing a page may break links and references to that page located on other pages of your site.

The unpublishing process works as such:

  1. All numerical versions of the page are set to not publishable. Unpublishing does not delete the page or any of its versions from your sitemap, so you can publish any version of the page later by changing its publishing availability.

  2. A publishing job for the page is automatically started. You can check the status of the publishing job in the publishing jobs table.

  3. Once the publishing job is completed, the page is removed from Experience Edge. Unpublishing a page removes from Experience Edge the page's layout and fields, but it does not remove any content referenced by the page, so it remains available for other pages that may use the same content.

  4. The page is taken offline when your rendering host next picks up the unpublished state from Edge. Depending on your implementation and the rendering strategy used there may be a delay between unpublishing a page, and the page being removed from the website. Consult your technical team to explain your specific circumstances.
