Schedule publishing availability of a page

In the page builder, you can easily replace a page with a newer version of the same page: after you create a new version of the page, you must actively publish the page to make the latest version available on your website. When you click publish, the latest version is saved to Experience Edge and later becomes available on your website.

Note

Depending on your implementation and the rendering strategy used there may be a delay in the page being updated on the website. Consult your technical team to explain your specific circumstances.

A page can have multiple numbered versions, but only one of these can be saved on Experience Edge at a time. When several version are publishable, the one published is by default the version that was created last, with the highest version number.

However, SitecoreAI has provided publishing restrictions to help you manage publishing with flexibitlity:

  • When a page is configured as available for publishing and you click publish, it is saved to Edge and becomes available on your website.

  • When a page is configured as unavailable for publishing, it is removed from Edge and replaced by the currently publishable version, if one exists.

Note

You can only schedule when a page version is available, or when it is unavailable, but not both.

Publishing restrictions can be used to solved the following use cases:

  • Prevent a page from being published - You are working on a page but do not want it to be published at all, even during a full site publish. Set all versions as unavailable for publishing immediately and without an end date.

  • Revert to an older version - You have already published the latest version of a page but want to revert to an earlier one. Set all newer versions with higher version numbers as not available for publishing, then click Publish.

  • Schedule limited availability for a page - For example, for a seasonal landing page, you create two versions, such as summer and winter, and schedule publishing availability with the appropriate dates for each version. You must manually publish the page or the site to ensure the correct version is live when each date starts.

Schedule publishing availability or unavailability

To schedule when a version should be available or unavailable for publication:

  1. In the Page builder Editor mode, select the page you want to schedule publishing availability for.

  2. On the page top toolbar, in the Versions drop-down menu, click Actions for the relevant version, then click Schedule publishing availability.

  3. In the Schedule publishing availability dialog, click one of the following tiles:

    • Available - the page version will become publishable on the dates you select.

    • Not Available - the page version will become unavailable for publication on the dates you select.

  4. In the Start section, click Now, or click Custom to pick a date and time.

  5. In the End section, click No end date, or click Custom to pick a date and time.

  6. Click Save.

Note

If you click Publish for an item that has no publishable versions, that item is deleted from the Edge.
