Managing roles in Sitecore Search

With the Sitecore Cloud portal, you can manage users and their roles. Each role in Sitecore Search gives users different capabilities in Sitecore Search.

Important

Only a Sitecore Cloud portal Organization Owner or Organization Admin can manage users.

Click one of the following tabs to see a list of roles for Search, together with the permissions granted by each. The roles and permissions vary depending on whether Search has been activated in the Sitecore Cloud portal for your organization or not.

With Sitecore Cloud portal

If your organization is using the Sitecore Cloud portal, the following roles are available.

Role	Description	Permissions
Viewer	This role lets users view and edit various pages and configurations. It is the base role and primarily used by marketers to make day-to-day merchandising updates. Important This role cannot access the Administration or Developer Resources pages.	View permissions to the various pages in the Sitecore Search interface, such as the Pages, Widgets, Analytics, Global resources, and Content collection pages. Create pages and widgets. Edit page and global widget settings. Create and edit rules.
Developer	This role grants the same permissions as the Viewer role, as well as some additional permissions. Important This role cannot access the Administration page.	Same permissions as the Viewer role. Access to developer resources.
Admin	This role grants the same permissions as the Developer role, as well as some additional permissions.	Same permissions as the Developer role. Permission to manage visitor data.
TechAdmin	This role grants the same permissions as the Admin role, as well as some additional permissions. The TechAdmin role is also granted to Sitecore Cloud portal users with Organization Owner or Organization Admin access.	Same permissions as the Admin role. Create and change domain settings. Work with sources.

Without Sitecore Cloud portal

If your organization is not using the Cloud portal, the following roles are available.

Role	Description	Permissions
Viewer	This role lets users view various pages but not change configurations. Important This role cannot access the Administration or Developer Resources pages.	View permission to the various pages in the Sitecore Search interface, such as the Pages, Widgets, Analytics, Global resources, and Content collection pages.
User	This role grants the same permissions as the Viewer role, as well as some additional permissions. Important This role cannot access the Administration or Developer Resources pages.	Same permissions as the Viewer role. Create pages and widgets. Edit page and global widget settings. Create and edit rules.
Developer	This role grants the same permissions as the User role, as well as some additional permissions, such as giving access to developer resources. Important This role cannot access the Administration page.	Same permissions as the User role. Permission to use developer resources.
Admin	This role grants the same permissions as the Developer role, as well as some additional permissions.	Same permissions as the Developer role. Invite new users. Add or remove roles for users. Permission to manage visitor data.
TechAdmin	This role grants the same permissions as the Admin role, as well as some additional permissions.	Same permissions as the Admin role. Create and change domain settings. Work with sources.
