Work with page designs

Page designs are combinations of partial designs that determine the layout of a page’s content. Page designs consist of a header, a footer, and one or more main sections. Page designs can be assigned to a page template, making them available when creating webpages based on that template.

Create a page design

To create a page design:

  1. In XM Cloud Pages Templates mode, in the left-hand pane, click Page designs.

  2. Click Create > Page design.

  3. In the Create page design dialog, enter a name for your page design and click Create.

  4. Give your page design a name.

  5. A page design is assigned to a data template to create a page template. To start working on the page design right away, click Assign later and keep reading.

Alternatively, to assign the page design to the data template now, click Assign now and follow these instructions.

  6. In the left-hand pane, in the list of Available partial designs, click a partial design to add it to the page canvas. Partial designs for headers or footers are automatically placed at the top and the bottom of the page, while main partial designs are placed between the header and the footer.

    Note

A page design does not require a partial design in every section. For example, you can create a page design with a header and footer, and leave the main section empty.

  7. If you include several partial designs for the main section, you can reorder them in the Selected partial designs list by clicking Reorder and dragging the tiles in the correct order.

  8. In the Selected partial designs list, you can also delete a partial design from your page design by clicking Remove.

The new page design is available in the Page designs library. You can edit existing page designs from this library.

Note

Any changes made to an existing partial design are applied on all pages that use it.

Publish a page design

To use a page design in a page, you must publish it from the Page designs builder.

To publish a page design:

  1. In XM Cloud Pages, on the Templates tab, in the left-hand pane, click Page designs.

  2. Click Edit next to the page design you want to publish.

  3. In the page designs builder, click Publish.
