Segment best practices in Sitecore CDP

The following are best practices to use when creating segments:

  • Identify your business objectives before building your segment.

  • While you build your segments, interrogate the data in Sitecore CDP so you can see the exact number and percentage of your customer base that hold the attribute or value. This can help you determine how useful a segment will be in decisioning, real-time audiences, or audience export.

  • Calculate the audience size while you build the segment to see if it matches the expected result. If it does not, double-check that you have used the intended comparators.

  • As your customer base grows, interrogate your organization’s data so you have an accurate view of your market. Even though segments are automatically updated on a nightly basis, it is important to keep informed of growing segments and markets.

  • Verify that you applied the intended comparators when joining rules within filter groups and between other filter groups. Using the AND comparator instead of the OR comparator can drastically alter your segment results.

  • Ensure that you are aware of how segments are calculated. Rules that are joined using the AND operator, are calculated before rules that are joined using the OR or NOT operators.
