Managing segment status in Sitecore CDP

The status of a segment determines whether the segment can be paused, set to scheduled, and used within Sitecore CDP. The segment status also determines whether the segment is included in your organization's nightly segment build.

The following table below describes the various segment statuses and the possible transitions between them:

Status

Description

Possible status transitions

Draft

This is the default status assigned by Sitecore CDP when a segment is newly created.

If you created a segment to interrogate your organization's data, you can leave it with a draft status.

A segment with a draft status can change to Publishing or Scheduled.

Publishing

The temporary status right after starting a segment and lasts for a few minutes.

You can not manually move a segment with a publishing status to another status. Sitecore CDP automates the status change.

A segment with a publishing status automatically changes to one of the following:

  • Scheduled - if the segment was successfully included for calculating in your organization's nightly segment build.

  • Draft - if an error occurs while publishing the segment and it had a previous status of draft.

  • Paused - if an error occurs while publishing the segment and it had a previous status of paused.

Scheduled

The status of a segment if no errors occur during the publishing status.

A segment with a scheduled status can automatically change to Live after the segment has finished calculating in your organization's nightly segment build.

A segment with a scheduled status can change to Live or Paused.

Live

The status that indicates that a segment is automatically calculated in your organization's nightly segment build.

You can use a live segment in decisioning. Live segments cannot be edited or deleted.

A segment with a live status can change to Paused if you click Pause.
