Create, delete, and rename items
In the Page builder, you can create folders in the site tree in the page builder as well as create pages. To manage both pages and content items in the same UI, you can work in Explorer.
Create a folder in the content tree
To create a new folder in the content tree:
-
Select the folder that you want to create the new folder in.
-
For the selected folder, click
. -
Click Create a folder.
-
Click the template that you want to use. This automatically creates a folder in the content tree.
NoteYour folder and item templates determine which types of folders you can create, and which parts of the content tree you can create them in. The Create a folder pane displays only the templates that are valid in the current position in the content tree.
-
Edit the name of the new item in the content tree.
Delete a page, or folder
You can delete a content item, page, or folder from the content tree in the page builder. Deleting an item or page deletes every version of the item or page in every language, as well as subitems of the item or page. Deleting a folder deletes all the contents of the folder.
To save any subitems of the item you are going to delete, move them to another location.
To delete an item and all of its versions and subitems, or to delete a folder and its contents:
-
In the content tree, click
for the item you want to delete. -
Click Delete.
-
To confirm that you want to delete the item and any subitems, click Yes.
The item and all of its subitems are deleted from the content tree and moved to the recycle bin.
Rename a page
When you create an item in Sitecore, you assign it an item name. The item name is the same for all language versions. Sitecore does not allow you to use special characters in the item name. This is because item names are used in URLs. By default, the display name and the item name are identical.
If you want to translate the name of an item or use special characters to make the name more readable, you can change the display name. If you change the display name, the change only applies to the current language. The item name is still used in URLs and in the Item path, but the display name is used by default in other contexts, for example in the content tree in the page builder.
Furthermore, you can rename item versions. When you give an item version a version name it replaces the display name for that particular version.
To change the display name:
-
Select the language for which you want a different display name.
-
In the content tree, click
for the item or page you want to rename. -
Click Rename item and then edit the item or display name of the page. You can use special characters in the display name.
-
Click Rename.
Alternatively, you can also rename an item from the Page settings pane.
