Edit a link field in Explorer

In a general link field in Explorer, you can insert one of the following types of links:

  • An internal link - to a page in your Sitecore instance

    When you create an internal link, Sitecore uses the item ID to identify the item. This means that the link does not break if you rename the item or restructure your site.

  • An external link - to a URL outside your site.

  • A media link - to a media file in your media library or digital asset manager.

To insert a link:

  1. In the link field, select to Internal , External, or Media.

  2. Specify what you want to link to:

    • For an internal or media link, click Browse and select the site and language, then select the page or media item that you want to link to, and then click Link item.

    • For an external link, enter the URL in the URL field.

  3. Edit the remaining fields as required:

    Link text

    Text that appears as a hyperlink.

    Link title

    Text displayed in a tooltip when a visitor hovers the cursor over the link.

    URL query string

    Parameters for the URL such as language and site.

    Anchor

    To link to an anchor on an internal page, enter the anchor ID. (You must also insert the anchor.)

    Open in new tab

    Select this option if you want the browser to open a new tab or window when a visitor clicks the link.
