Understanding transactional data in Sitecore CDP

This is a useful topic if you are a marketer or business user and want an overview of how Sitecore CDP processes transactional data. Transactional data is any data related to products purchased or a transaction performed between the customer and your organization. Sitecore CDP stores this data as orders and order items.

Sitecore CDP uses roles to define how a guest is associated with an order:

  • Contact - the contact on the order is the owner of the order. When this information is sent, Sitecore CDP tries to match the contact to an existing guest profile or it creates a new guest profile with a customer guest type.

  • Consumer - a consumer on the order is a guest who is listed as travelling or consuming a product or service. Usually Sitecore CDP have the guest's first and last name when they are a consumer on an order. When this information is sent to Sitecore CDP, it tries to match the consumer to an existing guest profile or it creates a new guest profile with a traveller guest type. Not all organizations use the consumer role.
