Cancel a publishing job
If you trigger a job by mistake or detect an issue mid-process, you can cancel a publishing job instantly—without restarting the environment or interrupting other workflows.
The ability to cancel a publishing job depends on your role and the job's status:
-
Organization owner, Organization admin, and Admin can cancel jobs in both queued and running states.
-
Users can only cancel jobs they started, and only if those jobs are still queued. They can't cancel running jobs.
Canceling publishing jobs has the following benefits:
-
Immediate error recovery - if a job was started in error or includes incorrect content, you can halt it before it completes, saving time and avoiding downstream issues.
-
No environment restart needed - canceling a job doesn’t require restarting the publishing environment, which means zero downtime and no disruption to other users or processes.
-
Real-time control - the dashboard shows live status updates, so you can monitor job progress and intervene when necessary. This is especially useful for high-volume publishing environments where timing and accuracy are critical.
-
Audit-Ready Transparency - each job includes metadata such as who triggered it, when it started, and its internal job ID. This makes it easy to track canceled jobs and investigate issues if needed.
To cancel a publishing job:
-
In the navigation menu, click Settings.
-
In the left-hand pane, click Publishing jobs.

. -
A confirmation dialog is shown to prevent accidental cancellations. To cancel the publishing job, click Cancel job.

After you have canceled a job, you can't resume or retry it.
Canceling a job might cause some consistency issues on your site:
-
Some pages or assets might be live while others are not.
-
Outdated or broken content might be displayed.
-
Some linked content might be missing or incomplete.
