Import or export language content

You can manage translations efficiently by exporting and importing language content as an XML file. This helps maintain consistency across multilingual versions of your site. Before making major changes or upgrades, export your content as a backup and keep a copy of the original XML file for rollback if needed.

Note

Currently, the only supported format for both exporting and importing language content is XML.

Export language content

To export language content:

  1. In the Sitecore Desktop, click Control Panel.

  2. In the Control Panel, in the Localization section, click Export languages.

  3. In the Export languages dialog, select the languages you want to export, then click Next.

  4. Navigate to the top item you want to export to export the selected item and all its subitems in the specified languages. Click Next.

  5. Enter the name of the language file you want to export, then click Next.

  6. To download the XML file with the exported languages, click Download.

  7. Click Close.

Import language content

To import language content into your Sitecore instance:

  1. In the Sitecore Desktop, click Control Panel.

  2. In the Control Panel, in the Localization section, click Import languages.

  3. Browse to the XML file that contains the language content you wish to import, then click Next.

    Note

The XML file that is going to be imported must be placed in the wwwroot directory to ensure proper access during the import process.

  4. Select the languages to import, then click Next.

  5. In the Database drop-down menu, choose the database that must be used for the translation keys that do not have a database specified in the XML file.

  6. Click Import to upload the language content from the XML file into Sitecore.
