Signals

Note
  • Early access - this feature is currently available only to select Sitecore organizations. Reach out to your account or partner manager if you'd like to take part or want to learn more about Scrunch.
  • Connect to Scrunch - before you can work with signals, make sure your SitecoreAI CMS environment is connected to Scrunch. The connection is live if a Signals widget appears on your site's Strategy page in SitecoreAI.

Scrunch continuously monitors major AI platforms, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and others, for statistically significant shifts in how your brand is discovered, cited, and mentioned. When Scrunch detects a meaningful change, SitecoreAI surfaces it as a signal.

A signal is a brand-level insight about a meaningful change in how AI tools mention, cite, or surface your brand and its competitors. A signal can represent either a sudden shift or a sustained trend in a metric.

Signals appear on the Strategy page in SitecoreAI. To navigate signals, see View signals. To act on signals, see Act on signals.

The Signals widget on the SitecoreAI Strategy page, showing signal cards with topic label, headline, pp change, and Act on this button.

Not every Scrunch signal appears in SitecoreAI. Signals are filtered to those that are actionable. For example, cases where there are specific pages associated with the change. A general shift in mention rate with no page-level action available may not be surfaced.

What signals monitor

Signals monitor changes in AI visibility for your brand and competitors across AI platforms and topics.

They can detect meaningful movement in metrics such as:

  • Mention rate - how often your brand or a competitor appears in AI responses.
  • Citation rate - how often your pages or a competitor's pages are cited in AI responses.
  • Competitive performance - changes in how your brand performs relative to competitors for a topic or across an AI platform.

Signals can highlight both gains and declines. For example, a signal might show that a competitor's citation rate increased significantly for a topic, or that your brand's mention rate improved over a period of time.

Example signals

  • Your brand’s mention rate for the ‘Personalized customer experiences’ topic on ChatGPT increased over the last 30 days.
  • A competitor gained citations for the ‘Multichannel marketing’ topic on ChatGPT compared with the previous 30-day period.
  • Your brand’s citation rate for a key topic on Gemini declined while a competitor’s citation rate increased.
  • Several competitors gained visibility for the same topic across ChatGPT and Gemini.

Opportunities

Signals that need your attention can include opportunities. An opportunity is an AI-generated recommendation for a small content update to a page associated with the detected change.

SitecoreAI uses the pages connected to the signal to identify where a content change might help. Not every page associated with a signal has an actionable recommendation. For example, SitecoreAI might not be able to find the page in the CMS, the page might belong to a domain that isn't managed in the workspace, or the current page content might no longer match the recommendation.

Although the pages associated with a signal can help explain the detected shift, the underlying cause can also involve competitor activity, campaign effects, or changes in how AI platforms assess and surface content.
