Create and assign site identifiers
In the XM Cloud Dashboard, you can create and assign site identifiers to your websites in order to enable the personalization and analytics features available in XM Cloud Pages.
For a website to benefit from the Analyze and Personalize features of XM Cloud Pages, you have to create a site identifier and assign it to the website.
A site identifier must be specific to a single website in one particular language.
Site identifiers enable the organization's websites to track useful analytics on how your audiences engage with your site pages, and unlock personalization capabilities available in XM Cloud Pages.
Create a site identifier
To create a site identifier:
Access your environment's Dashboard. This can be done in two ways:
In your XM Cloud Portal, click the environment where your websites are located, and in the right-hand pane, click Open.
In any XM Cloud app, click Home
.
In the Dashboard, click Settings.
Alternatively, in the Dashboard, click Sites, and for the website of your choice, click the Action menu to access the site-specific settings.
Click Create new.
In the Create new site identifier dialog, enter a name for the identifier, such as the website address.
In the drop-down list, click the language of the website that needs a site identifier.
Optionally, enter the market and brand that describe the website best. For example, you could have a global website for brand X, or a Scandinavian website for brand Z.
Click the up and down arrows from the Timeout field to indicate after how many minutes you want a browser session to time out as a result of inactivity. This time is set at 30 minutes by default, and it will not affect how Analyze and Personalize work in XM Cloud Pages.
Click Save.
In the Dashboard Settings tab, the site identifier is now listed in the table and can be assigned to a website from your environment.
If you have created the identifier directly in the website-specific settings, it is assigned automatically to the website in the language selected.
Assign a site identifier to a website
To assign an existing site identifier to the relevant website:
In your environment's Dashboard, click on Sites.
Click the Actions menu of the website that needs a site identifier, and click Site settings.
On the Site identifiers tab, click the Actions menu of the relevant website language, and click Assign identifier to site.
In the Assign identifier to site wizard, select the identifier from the drop-down menu.
Click Save.
The website is now assigned a site identifier that lets you access useful analytics on how your audiences engage with your site pages.
Unassign a site identifier
In certain cases, for example if your site shows a Fallback label in the language column, you need to unassign a site identifier from a website.
To unassign a site identifier:
In your environment's Dashboard, click on Sites.
Click the Actions menu of the website that needs to have a site identifier unassigned, and click Site settings.
On the Site identifiers tab, click the Actions menu of the relevant website language, and click Unassign.
Click Save.
With a site identifier unassigned, analytics are no longer gathered and the Analyze and Personalize features are no longer available until a new site identifier is assigned.
