Working with the page builder
In XM Cloud, building pages can be a collaborative project involving several steps performed by different people at different times, using various tools. While XM Cloud includes tools to design personalized variants and create A/B/n tests, this topic focuses on the steps needed to create pages for your site and publish them.
To get started with adding pages to your site, we recommend that you or a developer create the following items for the site ahead of time:
-
Partial designs (headers, footers) and page designs (blog page, landing page) - this can be done either in the Content Editor or the page builder.
-
Data templates - data templates are a collection of fields that will be part of the page, and they are created in the Content Editor. For example, a data template for a blog post page usually includes a title field and a page content field.
-
Components - components are a structured shell for content, such as hero sections and carousels. They are created by developers in the Content Editor.
In the page builder, you can take advantage of the intuitive WYSIWYG interface to build pages using the different building blocks available for the site:
-
Create pages based on any of the page templates available or create different versions of existing pages.
-
Structure a page with grids, rows and columns, then add components to the page.
-
Configure the design of the components.
-
Add or modify the content of the components by configuring the fields of the components. The content can already exist as content items in your site, as items in your media library, or you can create new content.
You can also use the page builder to manage your site:
-
Manage the hierarchy of the pages in the site tree.
-
Add language versions for a page if the site exists in different languages.
-
Publish a page, and optionally its subpages and its existing language versions.
