Pivot table example

This example illustrates how you can manipulate the pivot table display. There are six areas in the pivot table display that you use to do this.

To modify how information is displayed in the pivot table:

  1. From the list in the left pane (Area 5), select Table.

  2. Move all the properties from the horizontal dimension (Area 2) and the vertical dimension (Area 3) to the resting point (Area 1). You now have an empty table with no defined dimensions, with only the Totals shown (Area 6).

  3. Drag the Expense type property from the resting point (Area 1) to the vertical dimension (Area 3). This adds the property to the table as a vertical dimension with the property values displayed as left headers in the table.

  4. Drag a second property, Currency, from the resting point (Area 1) to the horizontal dimension (Area 2). This adds the property as a horizontal dimension with the property values displayed a header at the top of the table. Data is now organized by Expense type and Currency where, for each Expense type, you see the balance by Currency.

  5. Drag a third property, Confidence, to the horizontal dimension (Area 2). This adds the property as a horizontal dimension with the property values displayed as a second header in the table. This defines the order of the horizontal dimensions (Area 2). Since Currency comes before Confidence, you see the currency values as the top header and, for each currency value, you see the Confidence values as the second-level headers. Data is now organized by Expense type, Currency, and Confidence.

  6. If you drag the third property, Confidence from the horizontal dimension (Area 2) to the vertical dimension (Area 3), the property values are added as second-level headers on the left side of the table.

Note

You can cascade table dimensions as much as required by adding properties to the dimension areas (Area 2 and Area 3).
