Add a milestone
A milestone is a significant point on a multi-stage project timeline, used to evaluate progress. There are two types of milestone:
-
Fixed date milestone - a standard milestone with a fixed date and no direct relationship with other milestones.
-
Child milestone - a milestone that is linked to other milestones and is not considered complete until those linked milestones are also completed.
As shown in the following example, a milestone is represented by a diamond.
You can add multiple hierarchy levels to the multi-stage project structure by including a linked milestone, which is a milestone that is connected to other predecessor or successor stages/milestones. A milestone's completion depends on the predecessor stage's completion.
To add a milestone:
-
On the menu bar, click Project > Projects.
-
On the Projects page, select the multi-stage project to which you want to add a milestone.
-
On the Timeline tab, do one of the following:
-
To add a fixed milestone, click New and select Milestone.
-
To add a child milestone, next to the stage where you want to add the milesone, click More actions and select Add linked milestone.
-
-
In the dialog that displays, enter the following details:
-
Name - the name of the milestone. This field is required.
-
Start Date - the milestone state. Click the date picker date picker or enter a date.
The fields in the Options section are relevant only to stages.
