Public links

Using public links, you can share assets with people who do not have permission to download them from Sitecore Content Hub. A public link is an unsigned link to a pre-generated asset rendition. This means that anyone with the static URL can access and cache the asset rendition through the public link. You can configure an expiration date and time on a public link; however, the content of the link might still be accessible for a maximum of 10 minutes after the expiry time. Similarly, when a public link is deleted, it might remain accessible for a short period of time due to caching.

Advanced public links options let you create layered images or apply transformations on existing renditions before sharing them. Advanced options, however, can impact public link response times and might impact file size.

By default, public links include a version parameter (for example, oatmeal?v=6ae564fb). This ensures users immediately receive the latest version of the asset when updated, bypassing the standard 10-minute cache expiration. However, because query parameters can impact search engine optimization (SEO) and URL stability, Content Hub allows you to configure whether the version parameter is included.

Important

By default, public links can be indexed by search engines. This means that any public link that can be discovered, can be indexed. To restrict the discoverability of a public link, include an expiration date in the link after which time it will become unavailable. You can also apply digital rights management so that a public link to a restricted asset is unavailable or use gateway links as a means of providing secure access to an asset.

Note
