Enable and disable the variant functionality

Before you can create variants, you must first enable the Variants functionality on the target entity definition.

Note

To configure the Variants feature, you must either be a superuser or have the necessary permissions granted to you through user group policies.

Enable variants

To enable variants:

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage cog icon.

  2. On the Manage page, click Schema.

  3. On the Schema page, click the target entity definition.

  4. At the top of the entity definition page, click Actions more options icon, and then click Enable/Disable.

  5. In the Enable/Disable dialog box, turn on the Variants switch.

  6. Click Done.

Enabling Variants has the following effects:

  • Adds the {Definition}To{Definition}Variant and M.{Definition}.IsVariant members to the entity definition.

  • Creates a default Variant copy profile.

  • Adds a View variant detail page under the Variants parent page in Pages in the Manage section.

  • Enables the Create variant and Overwrite values operations for the Entity operations page components.

  • Adds the VARIANT and ORIGINAL indicators on the respective pages.

Warning

Variants are enabled by default for content in Sitecore Content Marketing Platform (CMP). This means that superusers cannot edit variants that are included as standard.
